AAPI Heritage Artists Feature
If you know me, or have actually read any previous Shop Girl newsletters, you know I’m the self-dubbed “Queen of Etsy.” I love nothing more than browsing the Etsy app for thrifty finds and odd art. Do you want a sticker of an opossum dressed as Princess Leia? What about sparkly acrylic shrimp earrings for the seafood fan in your life?
I’ve spent hours curating my space with ecclectic items, from a needlepointed “dat ass” wall hanging, half a dozen disco ball planters, and a mug that’s shaped like an ass.
With the rise of AI art and dropshippers, indie artists and sellers are being pushed out of places like Etsy and makers' markets, in favor of cheaper and less personalized work. I’d like to change that and provide you with some indie artisans you can support.
And in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, I’m going to focus on Asian artists across the diaspora.
Remember, now more than ever, it matters where you spend your money.
Here’s a list of 17 Asian diaspora artists and storefronts you can support this month- and every month.
