Shop Girl x Medieval Diva
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been fascinated by the resurgence of the Tumblr-era trend of Knightcore on TikTok.
It might just be the natural junction of my interests in fantasy novels, dark academia fashion, Chappell Roan’s VMA’s performance, and queer cosplayer thirst traps.

Knighcore is a subgenre of Royalcore. According to the Royalcore Fandom Wiki, “Royalcore mainly focuses on visual characteristics and contexts of historical European monarchies, as well as Fantasy and Fairytales based on it.” Where Royalcore garb can consist of more feminine glamour, Knightcore seemingly focuses on the more “masculine” side of the aesthetic spectrum, inspired by medieval knights. Which makes the mostly female and non-binary TikTokers styling themselves as Knights even more fun and gender-bending.
There’s been a resurgence of Renaissance, Tudor, and Medieval references in fashion over the last decade, both in pop culture moments and high fashion runways. I’ve loved seeing Zendaya at the Met Gala dressed like Joan of Arc and Chappell Roan’s VMA’s and Grammy’s Outfits.
Indie fashion brands like Selkie are drawing huge crowds with their fantastical runway shows and romantic designs. Larger brands like Dior have showcased chainmail and armor in their 2025 Resort collection.
Whether you’re cosplaying, going to the Renaissance Faire, or just looking to add a little whimsy to your wardrobe, here are some items for you and Medieval Diva in your life.
